4, 1998 -- I witnessed my first live (in-person) launch, that of STS 88.
It was a perfect and beautiful night-launching of Endeavour.
It took my breath away as I watched her light up the night sky, . . . and
then her shockwave hit! Up and down the length and breadth of the
causeway hundreds of car alarms went off, sounding like applause.
When
you go out at night, remember to look up. There's a whole universe
out there, just waiting to be explored. |
